Home Water Filters
Pure drinking water is everybody’s right and need but given the situation today, it is not possible to get such pure drinking water directly from the taps. The advent and advancement of industrialization has led to more and more toxins contaminating the water we drink so also depleting the natural water resources. Diseases, skin disorders and other problems have become a commonality today because of the water we drink, irrespective of whether it comes directly from a well or a treatment plant. Hence it has become absolutely necessary to filter and purify the water at home before using it. Home water filters are a great way to ensure pure drinking water at home that can be used for both drinking as well as other things.
It is important to understand that such filters are no longer considered luxury as they have become a complete necessity to deal with today’s situation. Home water filters use different techniques to ensure clear and pure water, which include processes like distillation, UV rays, carbon or ceramic filtration and reverse osmosis. Each of these methods has their own advantages and disadvantages. Further such water filters are available for the entire house, depending on your requirement you can opt for a whole house water filter, which will ensure clear water even in your bathroom.
Distillation is a technique where the water is boiled and then condensed so as to remove impurities and is considered the most expensive of all home water filters. However, this water filter does not reduce the chlorine content in water. Using ultraviolet rays, though effective for removing impurities removes all the good bacteria and ingredients as well because these rays destroy anything and everything living. Another disadvantage of this method of water purification is that while it destroys the bad substances, it does not remove it, so in effect you are drinking water with a lot of dead organisms in it, which is more dangerous.
Reverse osmosis is another very commonly used technique for purifying water in home water filters. These are great water filters that ensure completely pure water but have two major disadvantages. Firstly, this technique not only removes all the bacteria, toxins and chemicals but in addition also removes minerals that are necessary for our health, like calcium etc. In fact, when you purify water using reverse osmosis, you have to add certain mineral supplements to water so as to ensure better health. Secondly, this technique wastes water, which in today’s time and age is a precious commodity that should be preserved.
Lastly, carbon or ceramic filtration is another method used for purifying water in home water filters. Touted as the best filtration process, these filters are available in single as well as multi level filters. These filters, especially the two stage filters, remove the bigger dirt and sediment particles first and then filter it once more for removing the smaller ones. In addition, the nutrient quality of water is completely maintained.
